As your child begins their educational journey, the first year of school is a time of significant growth and development. In the UK, Year 1 assessment tests are conducted across three school terms—Autumn, Spring, and Summer—to track your child’s progress in key areas such as literacy, numeracy, and social skills. These assessments provide valuable insights for teachers, helping them to identify each child’s strengths and areas where additional support may be needed.
At The Mum Educates we have created some amazing assessment tests for Year 1 (KS1) kids. To download click on the image and download the PDF file.

The Year 1 curriculum in Maths and English is designed to help children develop a strong foundation in key skills, progressing steadily through each term. By the end of the year, children should feel more confident in their abilities, ready to take on the challenges of Year 2. As a parent, staying engaged with what your child is learning can make a big difference in their progress. Regular reading, practicing counting, and discussing what they’ve learned each day can reinforce their skills and make learning a positive experience.
