At what age should a child be able to trace numbers?

The children are expected to start tracing numbers and letters by the age of 3 to 4. Identify numbers using pictorial representations in year 1

Parents are children first teacher. Children learn the first maths skills at home. Parents normally like to chant numbers with children while feeding them or during play time. For children to grasp number sense, they need to know that numbers are not just abstract, they mean quantity.

Example: number 7 stands for 7 cups on the tables, or 7 toys in a box.

Once children understand number sense their Maths skills will surprise you. It is a best practice to teach children early math skills with visual representations like toys, cubes, Lego blocks and other objects. The earlier you introduce numbers to children, the earlier they will understand that the numbers belong to this world and they will not get intimidated by them.

Hi! Hope your week started with a smile. Today we are going to learn how to teach kids to skip counting. In year 1 children learn to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. Let’s see the ways to teach them in a fun way. (Free booklet attached at the end)

Why Do Kids need to learn how to count in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s?

Lots of people might be thinking why children need to learn to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. It might seem purposeless too, But really it’s not the case. It helps children with so many mathematical concepts. The better children learn these building blocks of maths, the better they will perform in calculations. For Example:

This helps children understand patterns thus improve their problem-solving skills.
It helps them to learn times tables
Counting in 2s helps them to understand the concept of even and odd better.
Gives good understanding to children for the concept of more-than.
